'Dance' the highlight of another solid season

  • PDF

2011 was another solid season for trainer Ed Vaughan with stable  star Dance And Dance carrying the flag for his Machell Place team with notable success.

It was Vaughan’s first season at the historic Machell Place Stables having spent several seasons on the Hamilton Road. Returning to ‘Bury–side’, perfectly located to the Severals and the Warren Hill gallops, has helped Vaughan enjoy his best season for many years.

Dance And Dance has proved a real star for Vaughan with his victory on Oaks Day at Epsom showing that, at the age of five, he was better than ever. He then went so close to giving Vaughan a first winner at Royal Ascot when an unlucky second in the Royal Hunt Cup.  A creditable fifth off top-weight in the totesport mile at Goodwood followed before Dance And Dance proved he was up to Group class when just touched off in the Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. Vaughan then took Dance And Dance to Canada where he ran a blinder, but was again unlucky, when beaten a length into sixth in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. The son of Royal Applause completed his season with another solid effort in the Shadwell Mile at Keeneland.

Vaughan secured prize-money of over £100,000 thanks partly to Dance And Dance but also the likes of Cinderkamp, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby Jet who all won twice.

Cinderkamp won handicaps at Newcastle and Haydock before finishing third in a competitive handicap at Newmarket while Robin Hoods Bay looks a decent staying prospect for next season following his good second at Kempton on his last start.
